Coconut water is one of the purest medicinal drinks in the world.
It is a unique fact that this great drink, which is subject to a purification process for many months, is naturally biocided.
Medical research has confirmed that its composition is very similar to the ion composition of the human body's cell plasma.
Coconut water exhibits a high ionic quality due to its abundance of potassium, magnesium, sodium chloride, and natural sugars in small amounts. Because of this property, it has been directly used as a saline liquid in the treatment of seriously wounded soldiers on the battlefield (field therapy). Historical information proves that it saved the lives of more than fifty thousand wounded people during the Second World War. In addition to the above substances, it is also rich in manganese, zinc, phosphorus, calcium, sulphur, iodine, iron, selenium, and vitamins B, C, and E.
In addition, they also include enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, organic acids, plant hormones, phytochemicals, and heart-healthy fats.
By controlling the various complications that arise in the body with ageing, did you know that coconut water plays a special role in enjoying a long life? This is because of the phytocyanins contained in coconut water. It will also greatly help in preserving the youthful appearance.
Makapuno Coconut
This is a unique species of coconut that grows in Sri Lanka. This is more expensive than regular coconuts on the market. But makapuno coconuts are not found in the general market.
It is a species of coconut native to the southern province of Sri Lanka.
It is not reported from other provinces of the country. Denipitiya, in the southern province, is famous for Makapuno coconut. Those who know the facts say that even in the south, Makapuno coconut is only available in Denipitiya. It is difficult for us to distinguish makapuno coconut from other coconuts, but there is some difference. The residents of Denipitiya are able to recognise this difference.
Denipitiya village has a centuries-old history of makapuno coconuts, so they have received this expert knowledge.
Those in the know can identify Makapuno coconut by tapping. And another unique feature is the reduction in weight of Makapuno coconut. There is no doubt that some people who don't know will throw it away, thinking it is an empty or wasted coconut.
There are times when it is called water-tight coconut. Sometimes, no matter how much you know, you can't recognise it unless you break it down.
As you know, Makapuno coconuts are grown on the same coconut trees that you and I know.
But rarely, there are coconut trees that grow only makapuno coconuts.
Makapuno coconut, a fertility medicine.
Generally, three to four makapuno coconuts are produced in coconut bunches. Coconut groves, where Makapuno coconuts are abundant, are also found in Denipitiya area. Denipitiya village is also said to have experts who are able to identify makapuno coconuts from the ground.
It is said in local medicine that Makapuno coconut is a fertility medicine. A super market has been created for makapuno coconuts, as the people of Southern Province know their qualities well.
Makapuno coconuts are not marketed like ordinary coconuts.
They are displayed in net bags and hung. Due to the demand for this, Makapuno coconut has also invaded supermarkets.
Makapuno coconuts do not have water movement (no weeping) like other coconuts.
As mentioned earlier, there are cases where they are discarded as empty coconuts because they are too light.
Although it is not possible to obtain saplings from a makapuno coconut, makapuno coconuts will grow from an ordinary coconut plant on a coconut tree that has makapuno coconuts. The inside of the nut is purely fleshy in nature. No coconut scraper tool is required. A spoon can be used to scoop out the makapuno coconut flesh. It is slightly runny in nature and is an extremely soft, dough-like flesh. When this flesh is mixed with honey or jaggery powder, it is a divine meal. When honey is mixed and baked in an oven, it becomes more delicious than cakes and puddings.
When mixed with honey, date pieces, raisins, etc., it is a royal meal. Candies can also be made from Makapuno coconut. It is unfortunate that no formal attention is paid to these unique properties of Makapuno coconut.
